How to migrate Doceri Desktop to a new computerThere are four main steps to the process, detailed in order below:
Deregister your license key from your old computerYour Doceri Desktop license key can be registered on only one computer at a time, so the first step is to deregister your license key from the old computer. When the old computer is still accessibleIf you still have access to the computer on which your Doceri Desktop license key is currently registered, follow the instructions at Deregistering your license key, then return to this page. When the old computer is not availableIf the computer on which your Doceri Desktop license key was registered has been reimaged, lost, or is otherwise no longer accessible, follow the instructions at Where can I find my Doceri Desktop license key? to deregister your license key from your online account page, then return to this page. Download Doceri Desktop to your new computerOn your new computer, go to Update to the Latest Doceri Desktop to download the correct version of Doceri Desktop for the operating system on that device. Install Doceri Desktop on your new computerThis step will be different depending on whether you are using a Macintosh or Windows computer. Installing on Microsoft Windows systemsWindows computers need to have Java already installed in order to install or run Doceri Desktop. If you do not have Java already, or are not sure, go to the Java homepage to download and install Java before continuing the Doceri Desktop installation process. Once Java is installed, follow the Doceri Desktop installation instructions starting from "Locate the zipped folder" at Downloading and Installing Doceri Desktop for Windows, then return to this page. Installing on Apple Macintosh systemsWhile the install process is similar on all Macintosh systems, there are a few differences depending on which version is running. You can find this by selecting "About this Mac" from the Apple menu, which is usually at the top-left of your computer screen. See also, Find out which macOS your Mac is using.
Versions from Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6 through OS X Yosemite 10.10Doceri Desktop v2.1.2 for older Macintosh systems still requires a separate Java installation. If you do not have Java already, or are not sure, go to the Java homepage to download and install Java.Once Java is installed, follow the Doceri Desktop installation instructions starting from "Locate the zipped folder" at Downloading and Installing Doceri Desktop for Mac, then return to this page. Versions from OS X El Capitan 10.11 through macOS High Sierra 10.13Doceri Desktop v2.1.11 for newer Macintosh systems has the necessary Java runtime built into the installer. Follow the Doceri Desktop installation instructions starting from "Locate the zipped folder" at Downloading and Installing Doceri Desktop for Mac, then return to this page. macOS Mojave 10.14Doceri Desktop v2.1.11 for newer Macintosh systems has the necessary Java runtime built into the installer. Follow the Doceri Desktop installation instructions starting from "Locate the zipped folder" at Downloading and Installing Doceri Desktop for Mac, then return to this page. macOS Mojave added two new Security & Privacy settings that affect the ability of the Doceri app to control the computer via Doceri Desktop. If these are not correctly set during the installation, and you cannot control the computer from the app after connecting, see Why won't Doceri control my Mac running Mojave or later? for instructions on adjusting these settings. macOS Catalina 10.15Doceri Desktop v2.1.11 for newer Macintosh systems has the necessary Java runtime built into the installer. However, macOS Catalina will not open programs downloaded from outside of the App Store on a double-click the first time they are run. Follow the Doceri Desktop installation instructions starting from "Locate the zipped folder" at Downloading and Installing Doceri Desktop for Mac, taking note of the CTRL+click requirement described on that page to open the installer, then return to this page. In addition to the two Security & Privacy settings mentioned under macOS Mojave above, macOS Catalina added another new setting that affects the ability of the Doceri app to display the computer screen via Doceri Desktop. If these are not all correctly set during the installation, and you only see your computer's desktop wallpaper or cannot control the computer from the app after connecting, see Why won't Doceri record or control my Mac running macOS Catalina (10.15) for instructions on adjusting these settings. macOS Big Sur 11 and macOS Monterey 12Doceri Desktop v2.1.11 for newer Macintosh systems has the necessary Java runtime built into the installer. The latest macOS versions will not, however, open programs downloaded from outside of the App Store on a double-click the first time they are run. Follow the Doceri Desktop installation instructions starting from "Locate the zipped folder" at Downloading and Installing Doceri Desktop for Mac, taking note of the CTRL+click requirement described on that page to open the installer, then return to this page. You may be prompted to install Rosetta during the Doceri Desktop installation process if you are running on Apple Silicon (the M1 chip). Rosetta is required because Doceri Desktop was designed for the older Intel architecture; if you have installed other programs that require Rosetta, this step will already be complete, and you will not be prompted to do it again. Apple's guidance on Rosetta installation is at this Apple support page. All of the Security & Privacy settings mentioned under macOS Mojave and macOS Catalina above apply to later versions as well. If these are not correctly set during the installation, and you cannot control the computer from the app or only see your computer's desktop wallpaper, see Why won't Doceri record or control my Mac running macOS Catalina (10.15) for instructions on adjusting these settings. Reregister your license key on your new computerOnce the installation is complete, your Doceri Desktop license key can be registered on the computer by following the instructions at How to Register Doceri Desktop. Special registration considerations on Windows 10Note that registration is a system-level change that requires you to run Doceri Desktop in Administrator Mode while registering; after registration is complete, you can return to running normally at your leisure. Despite the illustrated instructions, many people get tripped up by this process on Windows 10 specifically. The first thing you will need to do is Quit Doceri Desktop if it is already running, as it will be if you left "launch" checked at the end of the installation process. Quit is different than Minimize, and if you're not sure where to find the Quit command then please see the brief video How to Quit Doceri Desktop in Windows 10, which will also show you how to access Doceri Desktop Settings after you have relaunched by selecting "Run as administrator". How to get more helpIf you need further assistance with the process, please submit a support ticket, being sure to clearly note in the dropdown boxes which Desktop OS version and Tablet Version you are running so that we can provide a more tailored reply. If you are having difficulty with a particular part of these instructions, it will be helpful to describe where you got stuck. Attaching screenshots of any error messages you received is often very useful.
